Myths, gods and religion of ancient Egypt
The Beginning
When the world begun it was covered with water and was called Nu. This was the home of the Great Father Nu who gave life to the sun god Ra. Ra was born from an egg floating on the water and he rose to be greater than Nu. Ra created the wind god Shu and his consort Tefnut the god of rain. Following was the earth god Geb and the godess of the firmament Nut. Geb and Nut brought forth Osiris and his consort Isis, and also Seth and his consort Nepthys.
RA commanded the earth and the heavens to rise up from the water. RA spoke the words and whatever he desired appeared. Nut was raised into the heavens by Shu.
In the beginning Isis lived in the world as a woman, but she desired to be amongst the gods. One day she found some of Ra's saliva and mixed it with some soil to make a spear. This spear then transformed into a venomous snake. Ra walked upon the earth daily so she hid it in a place where Ra and his companions walked past. Sure enough Ra walked by the serpent and was struck down by its venom. He was in great pain and called all his children to see him. Isis came to visit Ra and felt no sorrow because above all else she wanted to share the power of Ra. Isis convinced RA that if he gave his secret name of power to her then the pain would leave his body.
Ra gave his secret name to Isis and he was made whole again, and the pain left his body.
